Ep. 45: Real Talk: Competition In The Beauty Biz

There she goes again. It's that salon you can't stop looking up. The artist on Instagram that just landed another celebrity client. The studio whose grid is so masterfully curated it makes you turn totally green with envy.

Social media is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it helps so many of us build our business, right? You know the story; I was able to build my multi six-figure business just through Instagram alone. I owe a lot to it. But it can also be the source of extreme jealousy.

In the beauty industry, it can seem like every time another salon, studio, or artist succeeds, it means you're failing. It's not a fun cycle to be in. You see someone you're jealous of experience success, you start to get down on yourself for not hitting that achievement or being right where they are or better, you get angry with them, and then you feel shameful that you're even experiencing these feelings.

Listen, you're not that raging green monster inside of you, okay? We all have her. We've all experienced that sting of jealous. Competition does not serve us.

Okay? Competition does not serve us.

In this episode, we're going to have a serious talk. Let's open up about our jealousy, let's open up about that artist that's driving us crazy every time we open Instagram, and then let's talk about how you can turn that competition into collaboration. That will not only help you alleviate that jealousy but bring you closer to that success you're thirsting for.

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [07:21]  Let's talk about that salon you hate. Or that studio that's getting all the recognition you desire. Or that artist that's just killing the game and you're so jealous you wish you were her. Let's be honest, okay? I know why you're here.

‣‣  [09:06]  I understand that another business that's offering the same service as you can be extremely threatening. But this scarcity mindset that you have, the idea that if one person is succeeding then it means less success for others, is not healthy. It's not productive. And it will NOT lead to your personal growth and success.

‣‣  [12:59]  How can you reach out to that artist, connect with her, and change your (one-sided) relationship from competitive to collaborative?

‣‣  [14:25]  There is so much you can achieve when you start to collaborate and support your fellow entrepreneurs rather than competing with them.
