Ep. 5: Lessons Learned From My Husband's Stroke At 36 Years Old

At 36 years old my husband had a stroke.

Just one week ago we were celebrating my husband's 36th birthday with all of our friends. Now, we're in the hospital after he had a stroke.

He's doing better now, but let this be a testament how things can take a turn at any second without a moment's notice. From what we knew about strokes and the people who suffer them, we never thought in a million years that my husband would experience one. He's young, he's healthy, he's active. But life often throws things at us that we're not expecting. You can never really plan for everything in life, as much as we try.

We both learned a lot from this experience about perseverance, preparedness, strength, and true family. So we decided to record this episode while still in the hospital to give you the real and raw truths that we learned from my husband's stroke at 36 years old. It's time for you to finally meet my husband, Will Reusch.

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [09:09]  First, I want to introduce you all to my husband, Will. I start him off with our traditional ice breaker, the Fat Penguin Five.

‣‣  [14:53]  Will starts to talk about his experience having a stroke here and the moment he thought he was going to die.

‣‣  [18:35]  People always say that to truly know your partner you need to see them through a variety of situations, including illness. At this point, we start to talk about what this experience was like for us as a couple and what we learned about our relationship with each other.

‣‣  [22:06]  Big life events like this can be extremely life-altering. Will shares his philosophy on hardship and how it prepares you for the future.

‣‣  [25:30]  How can running your own business prepare you for the unexpected craziness of life?

‣‣  [27:58]  Let's talk cognitive dissonance. You have this idea of yourself in your head, and then you have who you actually are. Are they aligned? What happens if they aren't? What happens if they are?

‣‣  [43:38]  To close out, I ask Will to share the biggest takeaway from this experience.
