Ep. 128: Make 2021 Your Best Year Yet In Your Salon, Studio, Or Online Business

2020 was the hardest year for me in my business - BUT it was also my best year yet.

I know that this year has been hard and a lot of businesses have been struggling. I don't say that I've had my best year yet to gloat - I say it because I want you to know that even through all of this struggle it is possible.

This year is coming to a close but that doesn't mean you can't put into motion the things you need to make 2021 your best year - no matter what happens.

So I'm not going to make you wait any longer to get this juicy info, okay? Let's just jump right into this episode where I tell you exactly how I managed to make this difficult difficult year such a success.

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [02:45]  2020 has been a hard year for a lot of businesses but I'm happy to say that despite having to cancel my big event Pretty Ambitious Summit and having closed my studio pretty much since March, this year has been my highest-grossing year yet.

‣‣  [06:17]  So how did I end up with such a great year despite all of the obstacles? Let me tell you - it wasn't luck.

‣‣  [07:50]  If you find yourself upset about the fact that you didn't hit all of your goals this year - shift your focus. You need to stop measuring your life in milestones.

‣‣  [09:58]  The key to success is taking risks, doing the things that scare you, and investing in yourself. If you don't take your business seriously, how do you expect anyone else to?

My perfect job didn't exist. So I created it. The job I wanted wasn't hiring me, wanting nothing to do with me. So I skipped the line and hired myself as CEO, just like you can. So consider me your secret beauty Biz BFF. In case you need to be reminded on a weekly basis that power is never just handed to you, you have to take it. Are you ready beauty boss? Let's jump in.

Okay. So just a little personal update. It is the end of the year. It is December 2020, and I am getting emotional just thinking about how quickly 2020 has flown by. How I was probably in one of the darkest place. Not one of, the darkest place of my career March of this year, I was in the darkest place too financially. Not knowing if we would be able to make money because our salon was shut down due to COVID. I'm sure we were all in the same boat, to closing this year as the highest grossing year I've ever had. November actually, our sales were through the roof, and we're able to buy our dream house this year. And my team grew, I hired about 17 new people across the country to help with my online business.

And as I reflect on that, I'm just like, "Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, God." Wow. I feel really, really delivered. And it's such a weird thing, right? And it just goes to show, the power of social media because I don't have a storefront anymore. Not right now because our salon is not open yet. But I do have an online store.

Guys anything is possible if you work hard, and have faith, and don't give up. There's always opportunity in every situation. I don't care what it is, there's opportunity. It might not look the same, but it's still there. It doesn't go away. It just looks different.

What's up PMU sister friend. No, seriously. Do you want new clients all the time? Do you want to end the worry and anxiety over where your next client is going to come from? How awesome would it be to have a steady. I'm talking a steady flow of leads and calls to your business, inquiring about your services. I'm inviting you to stop stressing, and start living, with my new online course NCC, which stands for New Clients Consistently. Here, you will learn how to guarantee how that one client that loved you so much, is going to turn into 10 more. There's a formula to this and it works so well.

This course is going to teach you how to create new clients out of the current ones that you do have. So if you have a PMU, lash or any beauty business that's struggling. You've got to check this out. This is everything. This is the secret right here. It's a new era. You got to shake things up because if what you're doing isn't working, stop doing it. Your pattern isn't working, so you need to get a new one. And this is the ultimate pattern interrupt. So stop what you're doing. You got to go to, sheilabella.com/ncc. Let's get you those new clients consistently, and I'll see you inside.

So going on today's topic. If you feel like you should be further along by now, slow your roll. I always give it to you guys straight here, I do. I want you to check to see if you're acting entitled. If you just heard my testimony right now of the wonderful year I've had, the groundbreaking year I've had, and you find yourself going like, "Oh."

If it's triggering for you in any way. I want you to know that, that didn't just happen. I worked really hard for this. And my hard work, the fact that I thrived even through COVID, is not just because of the hard work I put in since March. It's because of the hard work that I've been putting in for years. When I would press Go Live, and nobody would be watching, whenever I posted a photo, or a caption, and nobody seemed to care, whenever I pitched myself to a conference, and they don't have any more room for speakers, they said. It's the consistency of doing hard things. There's compound interest, so to speak.

I've worked really hard in building, a community so that when it came time to tap into that community, I could. So before you allow yourself to be triggered by that. I want you to check to see if you're acting entitled? If you keep measuring milestones, when will it stop? Because it's so easy to get frustrated when you say, "I'm going to make a 100k this year, I'm going to make a 100K this month." Whatever your goal was for this year. Whatever your goal was for 2020. And let's say you didn't hit it. I've had several New Year's Eves, where I look back at my year, and I'm like, "I didn't hit my goal." I've had several, but I did this year.

And that's why I don't count years because that can get frustrating. What I realized what I was doing, and it was discouraging, was I would look at other people who have been in the industry for a lot less time, and I felt like were further along. They are already doing the things that I've always wanted to do. And here they are fresh out the gate, and they are already doing it. So instead, of counting time, I have changed my way of thinking. And nowadays I count movement, I count action.

When you're moving and working on your business, it's fun. And it's very scary, right? It's like a roller coaster. So what I do is I measure my success based on how often I get on the ride. How often do I get on the ride? It's not just milestones. I asked myself, how hard did I play today? Because you can be in business for years, and hardly ever ride the roller coaster of business. Are you playing it safe? If you're not taking risks, that's probably why you're not further along.

Listen, when I first took a chance and got permanent makeup training, that was scary, I had no guarantees. When I hired my first business coach, that was also scary AF, I had no guarantees. I didn't know if it would work or not. But I had to take a risk because I didn't have a plan. I felt like I already knew everything that I knew and I couldn't know any more, I needed help. So you got to do the scary things that other people like your competitors are unwilling to do. Because what good is five years, of half-arsing it and playing with your life and your business?

What good is five years, of just half-arsing it. When there're people that are two years in the business and they're taking risks, they're taking classes, they're putting themselves out there, they're paying for coaching. The person who leans, into the fear, instead of running away from them, is the person who's going to win. The person, who's the most consistent who keeps their head down, no time for playing around, they see an opportunity, and they take it. They take risks, investing their money back into their business on knowledge, and outsourcing, those are the winners. It's not about output, it's about output in the right areas, in the smartest categories. It's not about doing more, doing less, better. I love this life, it doesn't feel like work, most of the time, it doesn't feel like work. I get to help women build their dreams.

I get to help women feel more beautiful, I get to create beautiful relationships, with my team, and those I love. So guys, you're punishing yourself, if you continue to avoid the hard thing because staying the same, is also hard, if not harder. You just have to choose your heart. I always say this marriage is hard, divorce is also hard, right? That's both hard. You just got to choose your hard. Investing in your business is really hard, but still is staying the same. Staying stuck, staying poor, poverty is hard, right? Not even poverty, but like not feeling competent enough to succeed, is also hard. And until you start acting like your business is a priority, like it cannot wait. It needs food, and water and investments. And still you start acting your business, is the number one thing where you will do anything it takes to succeed. You're not going to get there.

Having a great business structure means, you get to do what you love. Make money, doing what you love, and it doesn't drain you. But you need to know, how to set up that life, and business. But not only for success, but for happiness as well. And that is not Google-able most of the time. So invest in learning how to set up, the proper foundations, so that you can build a life, not just a studio, not just a salon, but a life. So this is why I'm so passionate, about my program. Pretty Rich Bosses. Which is a one-on-one, mentorship program, where it's not like a bunch of videos, where you watch it, and you, all right, see you. It is a relationship. We customize a pathway for you to succeed.

And we walk with you, for three months or six months. To make sure that, your business is set up for success, and that your life is also set up for success.
