Ep. 174: FEELING FINANCIALLY HELPLESS AS A CHILD AND WHY MAKING MONEY IS IMPORTANT WITH BEAUTY BUSINESS MARKETING STRATEGIST AND MICROBLADING ARTIST SHEILA BELLA

If you had UNLIMITED income - what would you do?

I'm motivated by money. I am - and I'm not ashamed to admit it! Making money is really important to me because it wasn't always an option to me. Money wasn't always an option to me. Being able to easily help those around me out of tough situations because of money wasn't always an option to me.

I think it's important for all of us to stop and consider how money can be helpful and how it can mean freedom for a lot of people.

This episode is a short one but a very important one!

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [01:49]  Why is money so important to me?

‣‣  [04:31]  Here's a good exercise that I encourage you to do: close your eyes and imagine if you had unlimited income. How would you spend your days? What would you do with that money?

Sheila Bella:

What would you do with your time if you had unlimited money? What would you do with those resources if you had an infinite amount of money? Do you guys ever think about that? This is going to be my stream of consciousness. Welcome to Pretty Rich Podcast.

Welcome to Pretty Rich Podcast, where you're totally the heroine of your own story. I'm your host, Sheila Bella, and I've built a seven-figure PMU beauty biz, and a seven-figure online biz without a degree, without a fancy website or a sugar daddy. And if you and I hang out on here long enough, you're going to start to believe that you can do it too. How about that for a side effect of listening to this podcast? Because you really can. I know you think, "I don't know, you have no idea who you are," but I do. I really do because I am you. I was you, and I believe we are all on the same journey together. My perfect job didn't exist, so I created it. The job I wanted, wasn't hiring me, wanted nothing to do with me. So I skipped the line and hired myself as CEO, just like you can. So consider me your secret beauty biz BFF. In case you need to be reminded on a weekly basis that power is never just handed to you, you have to take it. Are you ready, beauty boss? Let's jump in.

Making money is really important to me, It's really important to me. And I don't appreciate how the world seems to villainize women who want to make a lot of money, who want to be financially successful and financially free. I think that's the feeling everybody is going for, and I'm sure you guys have heard me talk about this before, but it's more than just a pile of cash in your bank account. Think about what you would do if you had the money to do literally anything you want to do. I understand that money can't buy happiness, but your quality of life goes up. And one of the most important measures to me of a quality life is my ability to help people, my ability to help my family. I don't like feeling helpless. You know what? When I was a kid in the Philippines, for those of you who don't know, I was born there, and I remember as a child, seeing other children come up to our vehicle, our car, street children.

And they would tap on the window and they would ask for money. I was five or six years old. That leaves an impression on you because I wanted so badly to help this child that didn't have the clothes that I had, the nice clothes that I had, that didn't have the food that I had. They lived on the street, they were dirty. And I remember they would tap on the window and I felt so helpless. This is something that's very common in Manila. Why is it so common? Why is it the norm? It shouldn't be the norm. And I think that that feeling just stuck with me into adulthood. I had nothing to give. I was also five years old, and sometimes my parents would give them money, and other times they wouldn't, other times they couldn't. For my husband who was raised here in the States and never had that childhood experience, he had other things, but it's not the same. When you're a child and you feel helpless, financially as a child, I think that really sticks with you.

So let's get back to the question. If you had unlimited income, and you got to choose what to do with your day, or most days, what would you really do? What would you do with it? How would you spend it? Where would you send your children to school? Would it be the same place? Would you take more vacations? Would you take more time off to be with your children? Would you travel the world? Would you pick up an instrument? Would you have the freedom and the luxury of donating your time, I think it's a freedom and a luxury, to a cause that you care so much about? The feeling of not being able to do with my time and my days on this earth as I so choose is so crippling. I don't want that. When I see a family member struggling because they can't afford childcare or perhaps they got laid off from their job or maybe their house was in jeopardy.

I want to live in a world where I can say, "Here you go. Here, I can help." And I think some people obviously, especially my dad who's very proud, that kind of offer may go over well with him. He's doing fine, but sometimes I wonder, truly... He doesn't listen to this, does he? And sometimes I wonder if he's really doing okay, but at least I know that if ever my parents were in a situation where they couldn't afford their home, that I would be able to help, because why would you want it spend your days worrying about money, where especially... And my parents are senior citizens now. And when you're in your 60s and 70s, they shouldn't spend their days worrying about money. They should be spending their days, traveling, enjoying life, spending time with their grandkids, eating the food that they want, ordering the drinks that they want, my mom does. I don't think making money should be villainized. And I am all for prioritizing it. Something my therapist says all the time is, "Thicker descriptions, thinner conclusions."

And next time you see somebody like myself who really cares about growing their bank account, yeah, I'd ask them why. And if you yourself, if you're focused on growing on your bank account and growing your business, there's a deeper why to that, there is. And I want to encourage you to find out exactly what that is. What is the underlying drive for you? What is the real reason? And I love my coaching business. I love Pretty Rich Bosses Mentorship Program, because this is really important to me, financial freedom, and the fact that I'm able to help others achieve their goals of their own financial freedom. I don't think I will ever tire of this. I don't think so, because every time I speak to a client or I do a group coaching call or a one-on-one call with a client, I see myself, I see a version of myself that was perhaps not as lucrative from years ago.

And I really understand. And I know it's more than just getting more clients, more students or moving online. I know that the feeling that everyone's going for is freedom and a higher quality of life. So permanent makeup artists, lash artists, beauty entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes, and techniques. So here's the thing, what are your goals for the last, oh my gosh, I'm about to say half of the year, because June is coming up, the last six months of the year, what are your goals? Okay. So maybe you've mastered doing the services, you've mastered doing being behind the chair. And you realize that training is where the real money is at, it's true, but you don't know where to begin. Do you want to do it online? Do you want to do in person, maybe COVID has shut your business down? Again, for my friends in Canada, I know many parts are undergoing their third shutdown.

It's time to pandemic-proof your business if you're in that situation, or it was time actually a year ago, just like I did, and create another source of income from home. Because now we've learned that he never know, none of us saw this coming, or maybe you're way too booked. If that's your problem, congratulations. Maybe you are way too booked and you need to hire a team of artists to work on commission for you, because you have no more time to rent. And that's the only way to scale and to grow your business, otherwise you're trapped into the confines of that your time. And there's only 24 hours [inaudible 00:10:22] right? Or maybe you're not booked enough. Okay. So second part, you're booked out way too far, and now you need to hire a team or clone yourself essentially, or else you're not going to scale.

Or the initial problem is you're not booked out enough. So what ends up happening is you keep lowering your prices, keep lowering your prices with flash sales. You need to learn and execute the right marketing strategies that actually work, or else run the risk of doing this as a glorified hobby forever. So a mentor of mine once said that business is like baseball. And the very little I know about baseball, I understand this, there is a right way and a wrong way to run a first base. Like you can run to the stands, you can run to the third base, but there is a right way and a wrong way to market your business and get more clients and students, there's a right and a wrong way. You could be exerting all the effort in the world, but if you're not going the right direction, it's a waste.

Think about what if you actually knew where you were going and what you were doing, and you buckled down instead of going the wrong way for several months. What if you buckled down and truly took the time to understand how to play this game to win? I mean, in a few months time, you might be a well-respected and known educator with a profitable online course, that makes you a consistent $20,000 a month. Let's be specific. Maybe you were finally able to hire your dream team and scale your business, so you finally have the time to make your kids dinner every night and work on that other dream project that you've been meaning to work on. What if you finally felt empowered in the area of marketing and sales, and you knew exactly what you were doing, you know exactly how to sell your services with ease and confidence. What if you finally master how to make a consistent $100,000 a month in your beauty business, because you were able to raise your prices, hire a team, scale.

And then now you also have a profitable online business that's contributing to that six-figure income a month. Let's get specific you guys, all of this is possible. Do you believe though, that it's possible? Do you believe that? If you don't believe it, get out of business. Why are you here if you don't believe? Why are you here if you don't believe? Because it's not a matter of whether or not you're going to have days of doubt. No, that's part of it. It's a matter of whether or not you're going to listen, and whether or not your actions are going to be doubtful actions that don't believe. That's something that I feel like I've done. That's what separated me, is that I always acted like I believed, even on the days that in my mind I didn't, my body still carried on.

And that's what it takes. All of this is possible. And what I love about Pretty Rich Bosses is that every single day, we get a win, or several wins, where success is the norm, $20,000 or more is the norm. And what ends up happening is people start believing, who are in that group, because not only have they changed their actions, but they're surrounding, their paradigm is now of all winners. So what ends up happening is they identify as a winner. And it's all about how you identify, "I am one of those. I am one of those earners. I'm one of them. So it's going to also happen for me." So I don't typically do this, have an entire episode focused on you making the step, and finally checking out Pretty Rich Bosses if you've been meaning to do it, but just haven't gotten around to it, but my question for you is why haven't you checked it out? It's not a commitment, it's just an application and a phone call. What if it worked? What if it didn't?

But what if it did? Like it has for the hundreds and hundreds of beauty entrepreneurs that it's worked for. So I'm just going to keep this simple for you. If you're 70% sure that this is probably something you need to check out, okay, you've been listening to this podcast enough. This is probably something you need to check out, this is probably something you need to invest in. The results are undeniable. This program wouldn't be as profitable as it is if it wasn't successful for others. PRB STUDENT 1:

My phone is blowing up and I'm booked out until May. I've never been booked out more than two weeks before.

PRB STUDENT 2:

Before, I probably had about 50% bookings, and now my books are pretty much full.

PRB STUDENT 3:

In three months, my bookings have more than increased, they've almost doubled, I'm booked out weeks in advance.

PRB STUDENT 4:

Having a YouTube channel, and getting myself out in front of camera and interviewing other artists and other people in the industry, I would not have been able to do that on my own.

PRB STUDENT 5:

Your content is amazing. [inaudible 00:17:38] Pretty Rich Boss, thank you.

PRB STUDENT 6:

It was because I wanted to expand my team, that's why I contacted PRB. And it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I ended up realizing that it was so much more that I needed to put in place [crosstalk 00:17:54].

PRB STUDENT 7:

Say about 150%. I swear we've done an amazing job at filling out books, and growing, and even having an apprentice with us, as well as signing huge contracts and moving to larger spaces, yes.

PRB STUDENT 8:

I've roughly doubled my profits from when I first started PRB. And yeah, it's been going really good after raising my prices.

PRB STUDENT 9:

More clients, like I said, getting pushed out of my comfort zone, showing up more of myself. And the support you guys as a community [crosstalk 00:18:34].

PRB STUDENT 10:

PRB made me an entrepreneur and made me a business woman thinker.
