4 Top Tips For Creating More Engaging Content

Low engagement is the bane of every content creator's existence. If you're trying to run an online business in 2022 and you're putting effort into your social media—you're a content creator!
So how do you defeat low engagement? In this blog we're going to cover my top 4 tips for creating more engaging content. Because if you boost your engagement, you boost your business! It's simple science.
1. Know your audience
This might seem overly simple, but how are you going to create engaging content if you don't know the audience you're trying to create engaging content for?
You may think you know your audience already. But if you're not getting the engagement that you want for your content, it could be that you don't know your audience that well at all.
At this point, it would be a good idea to take some time to recenter your brand. Maybe you've been throwing spaghetti at the wall for too long, allowing some things to stick but not really analyzing what's actually working, or what your audience is actually responding to.
So take a moment to reassess. Look at your analytics. What's getting the most engagement? Check your comments and your shares. Think about what content has generated the most leads - what led to actual conversations being started which led to actual sales?
Think about what content you've enjoyed making versus what content your heart hasn't really been in.
WHO are you making content for? Get really specific about this person. I'll share mine with you now. This is the person you should be making your content for!
2. Get specific
I'm sure you've heard the phrase "niche down" a million times at this point. But there's definitely something to the idea of really narrowing in on the kind of content you make and who you make it for.
The less specific you are with your content, the worse your engagement will be. This might feel counterintuitive to you. You might think, well, if I make as much content as possible, I'll increase my reach, and that will increase my engagement! But if your audience doesn't know what they can expect from you, they're not going to engage with you at all.
So be specific! Create a guideline for yourself. This won't just make creating content easier for you, but it will also be easier to follow and predict for your audience, which will keep them coming back for more because they know what to expect from you!

3. Don't be afraid of lists and numbers
This is because it easily categorizes information for your audience. Lists are easy to follow and easy to remember. They make information clear and easy to read. If you have a complex subject you need to explain to your audience (the benefits of a specific product or procedure, the correct process for something, cost breakdowns, finances, etc), lists and numbers help turn that complexity into smaller, broken down, and categorized visual pieces.
So don't be afraid to get a little analytical! Just keep your content short, sweet, and to the point. When it comes to complex ideas, the simpler the better.
4. Always use a call to action
Not using a call to action is, perhaps, the most critical mistake I see beauty entrepreneurs make with their social media.
You need to have a call to action for EVERY post you make; whether it's a post on your Instagram feed, Instagram story, YouTube video, Podcast Episode—whatever it is, it needs a call to action.
Calls to action are essential because they guide your audience to interact with you, engage with the post, and actually use your product! They are the critical element to building a good relationship with your following!
If you want to get better engagement and make sales at the same time, start using a call to action for EVERY post.
They're really not hard to do once you get the hang of actually using them.
