Ep. 176: NORMALIZING FEMALE MILLIONAIRES IN BEAUTY, BROW AND LASH BUSINESS GROWTH EXPERT

We need to start doing the work of normalizing female millionaires.

It is normal for women to make millions. It is normal for female beauty entrepreneurs to make millions. But, for some reason, that's a controversial thing to say! Even though it's true.

Do you know why it's controversial? Because we're not talking about it. We're not doing our due diligence to make sure people know that it is possible.

How do we normalize female millionaires? Well, buckle up beauty boss! I'm gonna tell you exactly how in this episode. 😉

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [02:59]  Why we need to stop villainizing women for prioritizing their financial success.

‣‣  [06:04]  If we all start being more honest about our numbers and actually talking about our successes - then we can start to normalize our success.

‣‣  [08:29]  I'm gonna get started: let's talk numbers.

‣‣  [11:46]  Making these kinds of numbers isn't hard. There's a guaranteed way to make more money in your beauty business: hiring.

‣‣  [15:24]  People like to assume that women are driven to make more money because of pure greed. But that's not always the case.

Sheila Bella:

Normalize millionaire women in beauty. Can we do that? Can we do that today? Well, it's normal here on Pretty Rich Podcast. Welcome to Pretty Rich Podcast, where you're totally the heroine of your own story. I'm your host, Sheila Bella, and I built a seven figure PMU beauty biz and a seven figure online biz without a degree, without a fancy website, or a sugar daddy. If you and I hang out on here long enough, you're going to start to believe that you can do it too. How about that for a side effect of listening to this podcast?

Because you really can. I know you think I don't know, I have no idea who you are, but I do. I really, really do because I am you. I was you, and I believe we are all on the same journey together. My perfect job didn't exist, so I created it. The job I wanted wasn't hurting me, wanted nothing to do with me. I skipped the line and hired myself as CEO, just like you can. Consider me your secret beauty biz BFF. In case you need to be reminded on a weekly basis, that power is never just handed to you, you have to take it. Are you ready, beauty boss? Let's jump in.

What's up, you guys? Welcome to another amazing episode, if I do say so myself, of Pretty Rich Podcast. If it is your first time here, if it's your first time here, my name is Sheila Bella. If you want to put a face to the voice, check me out on Instagram @realsheilabella. I swear I live there rent free, which is pretty awesome, because I love Instagram. All right. I am a beauty business coach, and I'm also a beauty business practitioner.

I built a seven figure permanent makeup business in three years, and now I have a multi-seven figure online coaching business and I help beauty entrepreneurs just like you get more students, get more clients, be booked out, and/or also create their own successful coaching businesses. All right. Today, I'm going to talk about something that's near and dear to my heart. Why aren't we normalizing millionaire women in beauty, right? That's one of the three things, controversial things, that I'm pretty sure of. That's number one.

Number two, we need to stop villainizing women for prioritizing their financial success. Does you agree with me? Do you agree with me? And number three, we need to stop wanting somebody else's success without understanding what it also comes with, which are struggles. How could you want someone else's success and just their success without the struggles? Because let's face it, okay?

If you do brows, especially if you're in permanent makeup, brows, lashes, hair, nails, but especially if you do something like brows or something that's a higher ticket item like injectables, right? Most of you are probably the wealthiest person in your family. If you're successful in that field, there is a 90% chance you probably made more money than everybody else who lives with you, including your siblings, your cousins, your parents who went to traditional colleges, because the money is insane in beauty and eyebrows.

Yet it is one of the most, I think, underestimated and looked down upon industries there or professions there is. It's not taken seriously by people who went the traditional route and got a degree and a corporate job, right? We don't talk about it enough in beauty. It's not normal because we don't talk about it enough. We downplay our successes. But the beauty industry is one of the most robust and recession-proof industries there is, but it's crazy, crazy underestimated.

My clients right now inside PRB, Pretty Rich Bosses, we’re achieving success. Most of them, when I talk to them, their friends and families are shocked at how wildly profitable they've become from something as silly as eyebrows. But what the world and beginner professionals don't understand is that seven figures is typical. Yes, seven figures is typical for a successful brow and lash business. Why am I telling you this? If you're new, you should expect more, because people don't talk about their numbers.

Since people are being "humble," I get it. Yes, it's weird to talk about your numbers. I get it. But I'm a business coach, right? I want you guys to make more money. People don't talk about their numbers, so newbies don't strive higher. They're satisfied with $10,000 they're making a month, or $20,000 they're making a month. Yeah, I get it. I would be too. If I didn't know that the next level existed, I guess I would be too. But it does. I'm here to interrupt your pattern. Maybe the pattern in your paradigm has been full of low achievers.

How about not just low achievers, just achievers, right? Or just like, yeah, okay, okay. Complacent, comfortable people. But maybe there's something in you that's like, "I know I can do better. I know I can be bigger." Listen to that voice. That's not a bad voice to listen to if you have that calling inside of you. Now, a couple of things. If you are going to achieve higher, you need to, number one, know that it is possible. Know that it is possible. The next level does exist. Number two, recognize that that is the norm.

That is the norm. Let me break it down for you right now, okay? I'm going to talk numbers. Let's just talk PMU artist. If we talk SMP artist, and if you don't know what that is, it's scalp micropigmentation. It's like $2,000 a head. That's even easier, but let's just talk typical permanent makeup artist, okay? Now, the typical average cost for a set of brows is $500, and I think that's pretty standard nationwide around there. And then about $200 for a touch-up, so that's about $700 per client.

In order to make a million dollars a year, you have to generate about $83,000 a month. And that will make you a millionaire or a million dollar business, 83,000. Let's say your goal was $83,000 a month. 83,000 divided by 700, you would need to see 118 clients a month. And now you're like, "Ah, Sheila, that's not realistic. I'm a solopreneur." No, no, no, no, no. A lot of successful artists, once they get to a point in their business where they can't possibly take on any more clients will hire other artists, will hire clones.

And those artists, they will pay on a commission basis. They'll pay per client. So if you and another artist need to do 118 procedures a month, so let's break that down. Let's say you hire two artists aside from yourself. Just two. You can still stay in a small studio with three artists. Each artists would need to do 39 new clients a month. Break that down per week, that's about nine clients a week, 9.8. So let's say 10, about 10 new clients a week with three working artists equals $83,000 a month. You can do 10 new clients a week.

What is that, like three days of work and take off the other four? That is incredibly doable. This is why it's the norm. Stop believing people when they tell you otherwise. If you see a permanent makeup studio with even just two artists, with two artists, $83,000 is extremely doable, and it wouldn't be to the point where you're killing yourself either. A lot of you guys, like I was saying in the last episode, you've become the slave girls to your business trying to do everything, all the clients, all the marketing, all the social media, all the emails.

This is why I've delegation and hiring a team is such an amazing solution to not only your problems, but it provides somebody else with the opportunity to labor and rise up. Another thing that really annoys me, it annoys me when society villainizes women for prioritizing their financial sector access. And I think this comes from... First of all, it's very old fashioned, because we're women. It's a very old fashioned way to think. I think this comes from the sayings that we grew up with. I mean, the saying, right, that money is the root of all evil.

You've heard that a million times. The poor get poorer, the rich get richer. Money can't buy happiness. I say to that, pass along the money that can't buy you happiness, because I'd like to be sad. No. No one's saying that. We all heard these sayings our entire lives, and we believe in these blindly. And the principles become a part of our programming. When I first started my beauty business, I thought every time I had a new client, I thought it would be my last. I took on anyone. I lowered my price for fear that it would go away.

And then when my business started making 10K months, I had anxiety because I thought, oh, that's the highest I'll ever go. And it felt the same with 20K, 50K a month, even 100K months, and three to 400K months. I couldn't enjoy it. And you know what? I've talked about it on this podcast before. The experience that really changed a lot of my mindset was when my husband had a stroke a few years ago at 36 years old. It was the worst day of my life. I was a mom with two kids and I realized that no amount of money was going to heal him.

And that was the event that changed our lives forever. And at the same time, I was also really grateful that I wasn't stressed out about money, because that would've made it even worse. When my husband was in his twenties, he had, and still kind of does, this rare disease called intracranial hypertension that the doctors could not figure out. His dad basically threw money at the problem at the right time because it healed him. For those of you who don't know what that is, intracranial hypertension is when your brain produces too much spinal fluid.

He was getting these debilitating headaches that he was at risk for becoming blind because of the pressure of the liquid that was forming in his head. My father-in-law had a suspicion that his back was collecting all of this fluid and told the doctors to x-ray his back. And lo and behold, they found the problem from that x-ray that they were not going to do. But I mean, that's an example of how money can make things faster and easier, right? But he just put it on a credit card. Yeah, my father-in-law did.

I don't think that it is necessarily from pure greed why women want to succeed financially. It's a lot deeper than that. For me, I don't like feeling helpless, and I don't want to not be able to help, especially people I love. Yes, it helps. It does. It can, but it's not everything and you have to be a good steward with what your given, if God is going to give you more. Something I also needed to learn during that time is that I needed to stop and celebrate my wins, because I couldn't enjoy the success that I was experiencing.

Money isn't the root of evil for everyone. I think money reveals who people are. Yes, money doesn't grow on trees. But once you know how to make it, it's just a matter of duplicating the process. Also, what goes up mustn't come down. What goes up typically keeps going up because it's called momentum. You ride those waves. Expect blessing and abundance from the energy that you're putting out there. I think what we're going for here is options. It's important because it's the ability to truly experience life the way you want.

You want to be able to choose. You want to be able to choose what to do with your time, what to do with your time, where would you spend that time, how would you spend that time, and with whom. Financial freedom comes down to options. What beliefs are you holding onto that are preventing you from going for it? That are preventing you from normalizing millionaire beauty entrepreneurs and making your next goalpost, that seven figure mark? And what's preventing you from feeling guilt for prioritizing your financial success?

Where is that coming from? I want to encourage you guys to stop censoring yourself. Stop censoring yourself. Give yourself the freedom to formulate your own thoughts, your own philosophies free of what society tells you are pressures you need to be. If you want something, go get it. Go get it. I believe in you. Until next time.
